Week One Is (Not Quite) In The Books

Hello again from St. Louis!

Production continues around the St. Louis area for the feature film, "Marshall The Miracle Dog".  Zach has one of the lead roles in the movie and has been on set most of the week.

We arrived in town a little over a week ago and The Artist has been having the time of his life.  In no particular order:

*He got to catch up with Shannon Elizabeth since they worked together on another "dog movie" two years ago.

*He has his own dressing room/place to call his own on set.

*Zach has been hanging out with his grade school/middle school pals.

*Lots of free food/snacks on the set.

*The Artist got to do an action scene on a bike with no injuries at the end of the scene!

The entrance to his dressing room.  Always knock before entering!

It's just like being in the truck on the drive to St. Louis.

Awake and waiting to be called to set.

The cast and crew is a mixture of Hollywood vets and St. Louis locals.  It's fun getting to know the STL folks.  For many of them, this is their first time working on a feature film.  It will be interesting to see who make this a career and who decides the "movie set life" is not for them.

We shot in Illinois this week.  It worked out well for me because basecamp for the crew was at a local college.  I made friends with the security guards and they gave me access to a classroom so I could spread out and work on some social media projects.  I could have used Zach's dressing room but it was nice to have a giant room all to myself.

It's also been nice to have some fantastic food on the set.  The first day was BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw piled on top of the pork (the only way to eat it!).  The second day featured vegan choices as well as chicken and pasta.

Craft services has included fruit, cereal, cupcakes, crackers, granola bars and pizza (as you can see above).

The absolute highlight of Zach's week was a scene where he raced across town on a bike. The bike ride involved Zach and one of his fellow teen actors.  While it sounds simple, the production had a stunt coordinator on set to make sure no one got hurt as the boys roared down the street.
They're off!

It all ended okay but there was a certain amount of danger involved in the scene.

The shooting schedule today involves filming a scene with over 200 extras.  It should be hot, humid and fun.

I wonder what we're having for lunch?
