A Long Overdue Artist Update

I mentioned in my last post that The Artist has been staying busy while waiting on a couple of projects to reach their start dates.

Here is a recap of his last few weeks:

***The most important item to mention is his graduation from middle school.  Zach begins 9th grade in July.

July???  Why is he going to school in the summer?

If you're new to the blog, let me explain his school set-up.

The Artist goes to a school that is a combination of home schooling, self-directed work and traditional school.  He goes one hour a day twice per week.  He meets with a teacher who assigns him his text books and homework packets.  Zach does his packets at home and turns them in during his two weekly school appointments.

Students are supposed to turn in (at least) one packet each time they go to school.  The packets vary in length from 25 pages to 80 pages.  He turns in a packet and the teacher goes over the homework with Zach.  He has a chance to ask questions about the assignment he just completed.  The teacher gives him a test that he has to finish in the hour time limit.  He gets his grade before he leaves so he knows how he did on the quiz.  He then heads home to work on the next packet.

The school is open all year except for the month of June.  While it might seem odd for the kids to attend school in the summer, they only go one hour a day twice per week.  It's not that bad since they don't do anything close to a 8-hour school day.

***The Artist has two new projects on the way.

1.  Zach shot a movie called "Long Way Down" earlier this year.  The director watched the footage and decided he wasn't happy with the end result.  He recast the little brother role and changed the parent from a father to a mother in the script.

The director called me to let me know about the changes and to make sure Zach still wanted to be part of the project.  There were only two actors kept from Zach's scenes and The Artist was one of those actors.

Zach begins shooting his scenes (again) next week.

2.  The Artist also landed a role as one of the teen hosts of a new talk show.

The audition for the show was in late April and they told us their casting decisions would be made within 7 days.  We never heard anything so we moved on to the next audition.

Imagine our surprise when we found out he got the role at 11:44pm on Sunday night!

The shooting schedule and promo shoot details are still being finalized.  I'll have more information about this exciting project in the coming weeks.

***Zach had three auditions this week.  One was a callback and the other two auditions were brand new.  The best moment was Zach taking a look around at the others in the casting studio and saying, "You didn't tell me I was going to audition in a room full of hookers!".

FYI...There was another project casting that was looking for girls in their 20s to play street walkers.  The Artist was not passing judgement on the ladies in the room!

***That's all from Hollywood (for now)!
